The final wrap-up | My music taste in 2019

This is the second and final post in my 2019 Wrapped series. Read the first one here.

Last week, I talked about my top 5 artist according to Spotify. This week, I will be talking about my top 5 songs as well as the songs that I believe deserve to be on the top 5 instead. These 5 songs will be the songs that made the most impact on my 2019. As I stated in the previous post, I’m a bit sceptical on Spotify’s stats, due to m offline listening.

Here are my top 5 songs, according to Spotify.

#1 I’m Okay – iKON

#2 Still Love You – Lee Hongki and Yoo Hwe Seung

#3 Must have been the wind – Alec Benjamin

#4 And I’m Here – Kim Khyunghee. This one’s from the Goblin OST.

#5 파란봄 – Ailee. This is from the Dunia OST.

Next up, are my own choices for the top 5. These songs managed to make a difference in my life, and my general perspectives. I’m not being dramatic here. There were a lot of songs, and having to choose just five was a challenge. These songs are in no specific order, because really, they all influenced me in their own ways.

I’m Okay by ikon

Last year was a sad year for iKON, and listening to this gem, as much as I wasn’t okay, reassured me. I wasn’t okay, not even in the slightest, but I had to say goodbye somehow.

I’m Okay, Killing Me, Goodbye Road and the rest of their The New Kids album was what I listened to religiously since it’s release. Those were the most hyped songs, and for once, with good reason. I said these songs would be in no specific order, but for this one, it is number one. No questions about it.

Still Love You by Lee Hongki and Yoo Hweseung

Hongki is a legend. He’s honestly one of my favourite actors of all time, but he never gets lead roles. Queue boos.

But today, I am not here to fangirl and make people question my sanity. We are here to talk about his music, which I started to truly listen to after getting a notification about this song when it was released.

Still love you was released in early 2018 and it has stayed on my top songs ever since. I can listen to this song without getting tired, because it’s sung so well and I always get so emotional when listening to it.

Lee Hongki is from the idol group, F.T.Island who have been a thing since the beginning of time. I’m serious.

Yoo Hweseung’s vocals in this song killed me, and they keep on doing so everytime the song comes on. He is from N.Flying, one of my favourite K-rock groups.

This song will probably be on my 2020 wrapped as well, unless if I find a better song , that is.

Happiness by Ovan

Yes, he’s stage name is Ovan.

I just found out that one, the song is from 2018 and two, he was born in 1997. I just love seeing our generation succeed. One of my favourite things to do is to discover new talent and 2019 was just the year for that.

I heard this song on one of my suggested playlists. I replayed it. Then I replayed it. I replayed it again, before I decided to put it on repeat. It’s such a good song. It more in the rap R&B genre.

“I am happy, but I am still struggling”

Ovan – Happiness

I felt this line even before I read the lyrics. The lyrics are just talking about how he’s all grown up now and making his own money, but he’s still struggling with money and just his own feelings. He wishes he was 19 again, 18 international age, because that’s when he felt more at ease. He just wants to be happier.

It’s just a beautiful song and I can’t tell you how many times I put that song on repeat, and how many more times I will keep on doing so.

All Night by Astro

This song started my 2019. I watched all of the videos on YouTube concerning this song. All of their performances, as well as interviews.

I started stanning Astro because of this song. I listened to it mostly on YouTube, because the MV was just a masterpiece, and that’s why I think it wasn’t on my 2019 top songs.

I just love this song. I love Cha Eunwoo, and after realising just how handsome all the members of Astro are, I fell into the hole. You know, the hole we fangirls tend to fall into whenever we meet an idol group we vibe with?

Undercover by A.C.E

I just loved this song from the first listen. I don’t stan A.C.E, nor am I a casual listener. I just knew that they existed, but this song. This was the one.

I still don’t listen to A.C.E much, but this song, I will probably even listen to it in my last moments.

Break My Heart Again by Finneas

I know I said 5, but this one needed to be there. This song, I believe, didn’t even make it on my wrapped because I discovered it at the end of the year.

My sister hated me because of this song. I played it on repeat, on loud speaker and I didn’t care. It’s such a beautiful song, highlighting the struggle of loving someone who keeps on breaking your heart.

This song also lead me to find out that Finneas is, in fact, Billie Eilish’s older brother. Surprise, surprise.

Some honourable mentions:

Face to Face, by Ruel

Then, by Gaho and Villain

극과 극 N/S, by Stray Kids

Alec Benjamin’s Entire album.

Same goes for Conan Gray, hey.

That’s it for my 2019 best songs. What were your favourite 2019 songs?
